Micro grid pilot project, Abuja, Nigeria

“The mast currently working in Nigeria has an incredible light output and is getting a lot of positive attention. I am sure that these micro-grid solutions will be very appealing to the government and the public, as it puts control and some level of ownership into the hands of local communities, affording them a way out of the Nigerian “power quagmire”. Scotia® is certainly a leader in this field in terms of technology and design development.”

Scotia have installed a Monopole 2.0 mast in the Nigerian capital as part of a pilot project for the development of micro grids built around Scotia systems

This initiative paves the way for the large scale introduction of micro grid technology in the region, allowing communities to overstep inefficient centralised networks and move towards greater control of their power assets.

Another pilot is planned for the province of Lagos.

Micro grids powered by the high yield PV of Scotia systems generate much more energy than is required simply for lighting, and can extend power supply to many other types of community infrastructure, such as traffic control, public security cameras, advertising and signage.

These systems are seen as a viable solution to the long term energy problems of this region.
